Digital X-Rays

Visual dental exams at Edmond Dental at Deer Creek are essential, and we recommend them at least twice a year. As beneficial and necessary as they are, however, these exams don’t tell us the complete story of your oral health.
Dental conditions like cavities and periodontal disease commonly develop inside teeth or under the gums or areas we can't see with a visual examination. Taking low-dose digital x-rays allows Dr. Tucker to detect these problems in the earliest stages and treat them before they compromise your oral health.
We Use State-of-the-Art Digital X-Rays
At Edmond Dental, your safety is our highest priority, and one reason we utilize digital x-rays is that they minimize your exposure by as much as 80 percent compared to traditional film x-rays.
Sometimes, it’s beneficial for Dr. Tucker to see an image that shows your entire mouth, so he recommends a panoramic x-ray. The way it works is that the x-ray arm rotates around your head in a semi-circle as you stand in front of it. This results in an image that displays all your teeth and upper and lower jaws, which helps Dr. Tucker detect problems like impacted wisdom teeth.
Diagnosing Dental Problems with Digital X-Rays
Some of the ways we use digital x-rays are:
- Detect hidden decay inside a tooth or between teeth
- Find a cavity beneath a filling
- Identify bone loss associated with gum disease
- See changes in the jawbone related to root canal infection
- Plan placement of implants, dentures, and orthodontics
- Reveal root canal infection long before you experience discomfort
We want you to be comfortable with our process, so if we believe an x-ray would be beneficial, our Edmond dentist will explain why and what he hopes to learn. How often you require x-rays depends on your dental history and your current oral condition.
If your teeth and gums are healthy, we may recommend x-rays every couple of years; if you have ongoing gum disease or are at high risk for cavities, we may recommend them more frequently. Dr. Tucker will decide which frequency is right for you based on your unique individual needs.
Your Partner in Oral Health Care
At Edmond Dental, we believe in partnering with our patients and being completely transparent when it comes to the services we recommend. Digital x-rays are invaluable for diagnosing cavities and gum disease early on, and they are also a valuable educational tool that includes you in the decision-making process.
Within moments of taking the x-ray, we can share the image with you on your chairside monitor. You'll see what our dentist sees so you can understand exactly what's happening and why Dr. Tucker recommends treatment.
